parks & recreationAll parks have police and fire protection. Ray Fine Park
Ray Fine Memorial Park, located on the north edge of Gore, provides a serene playground for the young and young-at-heart. This park offers tennis and basketball courts (new paint and nets); picnic tables; benches; drinking spigots; stationary charcoal grills; modern toilets; and group shelters--including a large gazebo for special occasions like our annual Easter egg hunt and recent bluegrass festival. The newest addition to our well-maintained and generously spaced playground equipment is an ADA-compliant swing. The land for this small gem of a park was donated by Rena Fine in 1976 in honor of Ray Fine, who served as an Oklahoma state senator from 1942-1964 and state representative from 1964-1972. Contributions from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, multiple families, businesses, and individuals also made the park what it is today. The Town of Gore is proud to offer you this place to simply take a break, or have a picnic beneath towering oaks as you watch the kids explore six-acres worth of good, clean fun. Steve Owens Sports Complex
Gore’s own 25-acre “Field of Dreams,” nestled at the base of Round Top Mountain on the east side of town, is the product of the combined efforts and several year’s hard work of the town’s Board of Trustees and members of the local Little Leagues, Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club, as well as many business owners and residents. Steve Owens, former football great and Heisman Trophy winner, was honored to have this sports complex bear his name. Steve, one of nine children, was born in Gore on December 9, 1947, before moving away when he was 5. He has since dedicated his life to supporting this and other community projects. Thus, the Steve Owens Sports Complex, which officially opened in the summer of 2004, can now offer two baseball fields, two combination baseball/softball fields, one soccer field, and one Little League football field, as well as portable bleachers, ADA-compliant bathrooms, an equipment storage building, and a concession area. Gore is proud to provide this well lit and well maintained facility for an assortment of tournaments held in our town on a regular basis. (ORDINANCE NO. 03-06-01-1: RATES)
